Boasting an almost flawless performance, Swiss athlete Daniela Ryf dominated the 2015 Ironman World Championship and claimed her new title as "Queen of Kona" with a winning time of 8:57:57, including a blazing 4:50:46 bike split aboard her Felt IA race bike.

After a very strong 56:14 swim, Ryf exited the water with the leaders and, in short order, moved to the front even before hitting the famed Queen K coastal highway. Once out on the open road, Ryf, whose cycling prowess is well-documented, slowly stretched her lead while putting the screws to the few who attempted to keep her in sight. The out-and-back course served up its usual blend of heat and high winds. Yet despite the seemingly never-ending elements, Ryf never seemed to fade. With close to an eight-minute lead lead out of the second transition (T2), Ryf commanded the pace on the run, ultimately building to a 13-minute gap by the finish and all the way to her first Ironman Kona World Championship win! It was an amazing victory for the 28-year-old who, only one year ago, finished second to three-time Kona World Champion Mirinda “Rinny” Carfrae in her Kona freshman effort.

Unfortunately, the highly anticipated showdown between Rinny and Ryf never fully materialized as what looked to be a relatively minor mid-week bike crash for Rinny reared its head on race day, forcing Rinny to abandon midway though the bike section due to a sore back.
