Pro Triathlete Judith Corachan Wins Spanish Long Distance Championship

This past weekend, the first edition of the Tradeinn International Triathlon was held, which also played host to the Spanish Long Distance Championship. The competition also consisted of international participation, with the Swiss triathlete Emma Bilham taking the overall win in the general classification. But Felt athlete Judith Corachan was proclaimed Spanish Long Distance Champion as she was the highest placed Spanish competitor at 2nd place. This was also Judith's second victory in the national competition, with her first coming in Ibiza in 2015.

The event began promptly at 6:42am (two minutes after the start of the elite men's race) with a pleasant temperature around 17º degrees Celsius. But a cloudy sky threatened rain, and precipitation appeared during the first few kilometers of the bike leg. This also caused some increased humidity during the marathon—yet with no rain but with the sun shining bright and hot, this made the final segment especially hard for the triathletes.

Judith Corachan was the first to complete the swim segment, reaching the first transition with a time of 56:05. A minute behind her came the Swiss athlete Emma Billham. A further two minutes back, it was the British duo of Nikki Bartlett and Chantal Cumming. During the first few kilometers of cycling, Judith was in a commanding position until she was hunted down by Bilham. The two rode together in the lead (always respecting the drafting distance rule), until on the descent to Sa Dragó, the last of the passes, Bilham went alone, reaching T2 with about two minutes of advantage over Judith. Behind, Nikki Bartlett got off the bike just 40 seconds from Judith. In the race for the Spanish Long Distance title, Judith had a strong advantage over compatriot Ivet Farriols.

The marathon was held in hot and humid conditions that made it even tougher than expected. For more than 30 kilometers, the fight for the podium was incredibly close. Emma Bilham remained in the lead with just over two minutes ahead of the duo formed by Judith Corachan and Nikki Bartlett, who ran side by side together—that is, until Judith launched a strong change of pace and was able to go alone.

Emma Bilham took the event win with a time of 9:32:11, followed by Judith Corachan at 9:37:55, while third place went to Nikki Bartlett, who had a time of 9:39:35. In the competition for the Spanish Long Distance Championship, the gold medal went to Judith Corachan, the silver to Lucia Blanco, and the bronze to Ivet Farriols.

This first edition of the Tradeinn International Triathlon 140.6Inn was a very tough and demanding test for all competitors, because of both the challenging racecourse and the humid and hot conditions.

"What a race!" Judith said after the race. "The hardness of the circuit, together with the humidity and heat, put us all to the test. Although at times it seemed like I was winning the battle, I knew I had to keep fighting in the tough conditions. It was a solid race, and I'm happy with my effort despite the fact that the sensations my body picked up were not ideal—but it just shows that in long distance, the head has more value than the legs, sometimes. Also, there was not a second of the race where I didn't receive encouragement from the fans. Thank you, all, for pushing me to this second position and getting the title of Spanish Long Distance Champion. And thank you very much also as always to all my sponsors for their support."
